Hollywood Auction 36 featuring the Forrest J. Ackerman Collection
Profiles in History would like to dedicate this auction to the greatest ambassador of science fiction, horror and fantasy the world has ever known, Forrest J Ackerman. Forry’s tireless dedication over seven decades forever changed the public’s perception of the genre and he was the original collector of Hollywood memorabilia, sharing his collection with countless fans who toured the Ackermansion to view his artifacts. We are honored to be handling Forry’s treasures in this sale and hope you enjoy seeing the items that brought such joy to so many. Forry was a true one-of-a-kind and we will miss him.
April 30, 2009 at 12 pm PDT and May 1, 2009 at 11:00 am PDTThis sale features over 1,100 unique pieces of Hollywood history, from the silent era to modern sci-fi classics and everything in between. Among the highlights are some of the finest Universal horror posters to ever reach the market, including an original 1931 Frankenstein one-sheet poster (one of only six known to have survived), a 1931 Dracula window card, a 1941 The Wolf Man half-sheet, a 1942 The Mummy’s Tomb one-sheet, among numerous others.
In addition, we are thrilled to present Rita Hayworth’s signature black satin gown from Gildaundoubtedly one of the most iconic pieces of Hollywood female wardrobe ever created. From the same era, we are pleased to present a fantastic archive of annotated scripts from Warner Bros. Script Supervisor from 1933-1950, Fred Applegate. The prize from the collection is the original shooting script from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre bearing literally thousands of handwritten production notations.
Later in the sale, we are proud to present the finest collection of Blade Runner material ever offered, including Harrison Ford’s hero “Rick Deckard” blasterthe only hero Deckard gun created for the future noir thriller. Also within the collection is Harrison Ford’s signature costume worn in the pivotal “Voight Kampff” sequence.
We are also pleased to be offering iconic items created by Fantasy II Film Effects for another future thriller, The Terminator, including the only Hunter/Killer Tank and Aerial Hunter/Killer filming miniatures made for the groundbreaking film that started the popular franchise. Among other items from Fantasy II Film Effects are an Arnold Schwarzenegger stop-motion “T-800 Terminator” puppet from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the screen-used miniature train from Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the terrifying Tim Curry stop-motion “Pennywise” clown puppet from Stephen King’s It.
From the brilliant, creative mind of Tim Burton, we proudly present production artwork, stop-motion puppets, set pieces and costumes from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
